Keep calm and pass the packing tape. Moving made eazy peazy!
Congratulations, you’re moving! Now what?
The thought of downsizing can feel like standing at the base of a towering mountain, with years of belongings and memories making the climb seem overwhelming. The good news is that with a clear vision and a thoughtful plan, you can go from feeling overwhelmed to confidently ascending that downsizing hill.
The truth is a smooth move doesn’t begin on move day but starts weeks earlier. Make it the most manageable by following these key points:
– Pack up everything before the move day. Begin by sorting, downsizing and then boxing your keeps
– Arrange for your pets so they have somewhere to relax on move day rather than under the feet of the movers
– Check with your home insurance to know what is covered as your things get moved between point A and B
– Book any elevators needed on either ends of your move
– Let your neighbours know which day you are moving and make sure the street is available for the moving truck
– Work out a floor plan for your new home so that when the furniture starts being delivered quickly, you can easily direct where each piece goes
A few days before we recommend:
– Packing an overnight bag so you have immediate access to your important toiletries, medications and some clothes the first night you are in your new home
– Bring snacks and arrange for lunch on move day
– If you find you have extra furniture that is in good shape but not moving with you, ask your moving company if they can drop off these items at a charity on move day. There may be a minimal charge
– Consider asking a friend or a professional downsizing company like Eazy Peazy Downsizing to help you set up your suite on Day One in your new home. Your extra help can also assist you with removing all the boxes, recycle and trash
On the big move day:
– Take care of yourself!
– Be up early and eat a good breakfast
– Put any personal belongings you want to take with you in your vehicle
By planning well ahead and completing all of these important tasks, your upcoming move day will be a great success! Now that’s a happy ending.
